There's been a fun color technique I've been meaning to try out, and I finally made the chance with a character I'm developing. It's a color picking technique that gets out of your comfort zone, makes you try colors you may not normally think of, AND makes sure your work still looks good.
Simply take some photos or find photos or art that inspire you or just look great... (nature has a way of creating colors that work in harmony) and color pick a sample of colors and create a workable palette to use in your own work. You can also just go bizarre and try other things as well, as I did with my cat and my dinner (the colors in my enchiladas just screamed adventure to me)
I still went with traditional adventurous colors, but was able to at least consider different moods and design. and open my eye to better choices I think.
Best of all it was fun. :)
